After a few years of slugging it out, Nom De Strip is finally getting the recognition he deserves. On the heels of his most recent release for Dim Mak, the Scottish producer is ready to tackle the rest of 2015. He’s widely been considered a producer’s producer, and after a brief stint living in Los Angeles, he’s definitely found his form. He’s served up a 30-minute mini mix of thumping house and electro tracks ahead of his set this weekend at Beyond Wonderland Bay Area. So, if you were having any doubts as to copping tickets or not, press play and then get to buying.

What’s new in the world of Nom De Strip?
I’m in a really good place right now. I’m finally getting used to working in my new studio (it’s taken months!), and I’ve got a lot of new music going on. It’s going to be an exciting end to 2015, and I’m testing a lot of new stuff this weekend!

How was living in Los Angeles?
L.A. was fantastic. I met some great people and was able to work on a bunch of exciting projects. And the weather was a lot better than Scotland! I recently moved to Las Vegas, and it’s been surprisingly peaceful; now I’ve got a great studio setup at home. It’s a good opportunity to go see friends DJ on the strip whenever I want and to have guests back to the studio to work anytime.

What’s your most enjoyable activity outside of the studio?
Right now, I’m doing a lot of cycling and swimming, which are two things I hadn’t done since I was at school! Now that Vegas is starting to cool down a bit, I’ll be able to go exploring in the local mountains. It’s nice doing outdoor activities to counter the long days working in a dark room with no windows!

Any specific preparation for your set at Beyond Bay?
Technically, the larger events require different set prep to club events. Everything’s got to be done a bit quicker. I’ve got a lot of new material to finish off this week, so I’ll mostly be doing that and editing existing tracks.

Tell us a bit about this mix.
It’s a mixture of the more stripped-back style I prefer, along with some bass-y and bouncy stuff. When I do a mix, I like it to represent the range of stuff I’d play in a set. It’s as important to me that the mix makes sense as a whole, rather than just choosing a bunch of “bangers.”

What else is on tap for the rest of the year?
I’m currently working on a number of collaborations that need finishing, and I’ve got some more originals coming up. My track “Bad Things” just came out on Dim Mak, and I’m really into that sort of raw style at the moment—so, expect more things like that. 🙂
