Piero Pirupa and Alex Kennon Team Up on Sultry Percussive Cut “Turning”
Damian Lazurus‘ Crosstown Rebels is currently celebrating its 15-year milestone, an incredible run that has seen the imprint release more than 200 singles and nearly 40 albums, as well as help bring the world seminal artists like Jamie Jones, Art Department, and Maceo Plex. Not to be forgotten in these celebrations, though, is its sister imprint Rebellion, which is itself nearing its decade milestone. The label’s next release is the collaborative Vision EP from Piero Pirupa and Alex Kennon, and we’re bringing you its sexy B-side as our Track of the Day.
“Turning” gets things rolling on a sultry, percussive tip, dropping in at a solid tech house tempo while keeping things relatively stripped back. It’s an early breakdown, though, when Pirupa and Kennon really show their cards with a thoroughly chopped-up vocal sample that still manages to gift the production plenty of sexy soulfulness, used to full effect in the production.
“We made this EP for fun,” Pirupa tells us. “Alex was in Barcelona, and he asked me to do something. We went in my studio, and we did this EP in two to three days.”
Kennon echoes these sentiments and emphasizes the spontaneous nature of the collaboration. “We both brought something special to the table, and I am very proud of the results.”
Available March 22 via Rebellion.
