“Power Up!” With Protohype as He Elevates the Dancefloor to the Next Level

The ever-impressive Protohype returns to center stage with his wall-quaking Nimbus EP, dropping on Firepower today. Going all in for the head-banging crew, Protohype unleashes the beast from the jump and absolutely shreds his way through a unique sound that’s all his own.

While all the cuts off the project get that heart thumping in just the right way, it’s this killer thriller called “Power Up!” that we’re tagging as the one to turn to when you want that fresh mix of drum & bass sound design, hip-hop swagger, and straight-up dubstep neck-snapping flavor—all of which has become synonymous with Protohype’s name.

“’Power Up!’ may be the song I had the most fun making on Nimbus,” he tells Insomniac. “Out of all of the songs, this one defines the Protohype sound to a T. Enjoy some epic melodies and energy, and pass on the inspiration. Bassrush fam for life!”

From the sinister, retro-tinged atmosphere that holds it down from the intro, to the winding hook and teeth-gnashing grind at the core, “Power Up!” makes for an epic blast into the weekend that Protohype promises is just a hint at what kind of mayhem he’s got in store for us in the near future.
