Redlight Drops Racy Club Track “Ride That Thing” on Insomniac Records
Redlight is a name to be reckoned with. Shortly after shifting gears and donning a new moniker, already seasoned Bristol DJ/producer Hugh Pescod had a massive hit on his hands with “What You Talking About!?” In terms of success, it was all uphill from that point on. Not only was Redlight known for pushing the boundaries of bass music during his rowdy DJ sets, but he was also taking those skills into the studio, often collaborating with artists such as Mobb Deep, Raekwon, and Mary J. Blige.
After dropping the album’s first single, “Zum Zum,” at the end of 2017, Redlight is back with the too-hot-to-handle “Ride That Thing” for Insomniac Records. Leading up to a full-length release later this year, this single was inspired by “‘80s Chicago raw, jacking house and early UK acid.” And while all of that shows, “Ride That Thing” twists in a series of other sounds, wearing all of them with a contemporary fit.
Jumping in with a simple clap and a hot vocal loop, the tune takes its time to build up, yet it somehow instantly pumps with energy. Once the beat drops in, it jumps with a club flare and low-end thump. Carrying a warehouse attitude, his new single feels at home in club music of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and ‘00s, and each listener will probably find their own reference point. It’s the kind of funky, driving track that will put bodies in motion without them even realizing. Catchy, upbeat, and deceptively simple, this track is sure to land hard on any dancefloor.
Make sure to watch this space for when Redlight hits us with his highly anticipated LP.
