Tennan Shows Up With Heads-Down Slammer “Keep My Beat”

Leeds upstart Tennan is already on our radar as a UK house producer on the rise. Though new to the scene, he’s making a huge impression since being selected by his hero Steve Lawler to release an EP on the veteran DJ’s VIVa MUSiC label. Since then, Tennan has signed to an impressive list of underground house favorites, including 20/20 Vision, Moon Harbour and Relief, to start with, while earning support from other stalwarts like Marco Carola, Lee Foss, Nicole Moudaber, and beyond. Later this week, he’s adding WOW! Recordings to his résumé with the four-track Keep My Beat EP, and we’re previewing its title cut as our Track of the Day.

“Keep My Beat” is the very definition of a perfectly executed house groove: heads-down in nature, and a functional weapon to keep a DJ set rolling along nicely. Tennan lays out his percussion and driving bassline, which is cleverly embellished with subtle samples. A vocal sample is gradually woven in as the track moves toward an early peak, before a surprise additional vocal is introduced at the drop, which tells us indeed to “Keep My Beat.” With Tennan’s productions, it’s all about the execution, and here, it’s in full swing.
