Charlie Banks “Positivity”
The propitious UK producer Charlie Banks is a relatively young buck in the scene, but only a few releases in and he has already displayed a mature sound well beyond his age. The 21-year-old producer broke with a stunning EP on Dirt Crew Recordings, and is now following up with a well-deserved placement on Skream’s new Of Unsound Mind imprint. As the label’s sixth release, Banks delivers a two-track EP with enough club merit to get rinsed out in the most reputable underground spots. The second tune, “Positivity,” is a brash, tough bit of work, and we have the exclusive full stream for you below. Get down to the dark and floor-focused mood he has crafted here, and whatever you do, make sure to stay up on the promising name that is Charlie Banks.
Available now via Of Unsound Mind.
Did you discuss or exchange ideas with other producers while creating this track?
It’s funny, because the release actually came about from me playing Skream a few of my new tracks at an after-party in my hometown, Bournemouth. He instantly said he wanted to take “Under the Weather” for his label Of Unsound Mind. The week after, I started on a B-side for the release, and “Positivity” was the first track I made. So, although I didn’t discuss any ideas with anyone, I had some inspiration for how I wanted the track to sound.
Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
I already had an idea for this track in my head, so I knew what I wanted to do with it before I started. But usually this is not how I work; I normally just have a jam and hope to come up with a good idea and carry it on from there.
Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
That’s a tough question. I think when it comes to remixing a track, you want somebody that will put a completely different twist on it. I’m not sure who the most ideal person would be, as there are so many people I would choose.
How do you measure the success of a track?
I guess just how well-received the track is by other people, other DJs supporting it and playing it out, and people downloading it.
