Christian Smith & Drunken Kong’s Peak-Time Workout “Shiki”
Often, fate has a hand in bringing people together. Case in point: this new collaboration between Tronic boss Christian Smith and Japanese techno duo Drunken Kong.
During a trip to Tokyo a few years back, Smith was introduced to the local legends, aka D. Singh and DJ Kyoko, who hold down a regular residency at famous Shibuya club Womb.
Together, they hatched a plan to work together in the future—and the fruit of that chance encounter is here in the form of “Shiki,” taken from their forthcoming debut album, The Signs Within.
“Shiki” is pure peak-time techno, featuring a punchy bassline, rolling subs, and deep synths to delight the late-night dancefloor.
“For us, it was an amazing chance to be able to work in the studio together with Christian Smith,” Drunken Kong told Insomniac. “We had a great session where our ideas smoothly came together, and most of all, we had great fun working on this track.”
Stream “Shiki” below—and be sure to catch them at Barcelona’s Tronic Beach Festival on June 16.
Available June 19 via Tronic.
