Daruma Label Launches With Andrew Luce and graves’ Downtempo “Up to You”

In 2016, SoundCloud DJs are a dime a dozen. The lack of a barrier to entry via online platforms both pushes the industry forward and muddies the water; there will be 12 EPs of note released while I type this review. Ultimately, though, the cream of the crop rises to the top. And that is what we have here with upstart collective Daruma’s first official label launch.

The track is helmed by 18-year-old Andrew Luce, who is wise beyond his age. “Up to You” is a simple cut that reminds us that less can be more—a downtempo, dare I say, chillwave song that is more apropos to the comedown than the dancefloor. There is no doubt in our mind that “Up to You” will be playing at sunrise at multiple festivals this season. Often, when there are too many cooks in the kitchen, you get a track that feels butchered. However, the collaboration between Andrew Luce, graves and Chelsea Cutler is a fine example of how collaboration can ultimately create the best track possible from the stems. The best of all three can really be heard on “Up to You.”

“Chelsea sent me the original demo for this track several months ago, right as I was chatting with graves for the first time for the Daruma roster and a collaboration,” Andrew tells Insomniac. “I’m very satisfied with what we came up with. Both Chelsea and graves are very talented, and I think we are all stepping out of our comfort zones a little bit here.”

If this track is any indication of what Daruma will be giving us in the future, we cannot wait to see what they have up their sleeves.
