Drifta Kicks Out UK Garage Cracker “Hit the Dancefloor”
For our TGIF Track of the Day, we’re flashing back to last year for Drifta’s “Hit the Dancefloor,” featuring Brixton’s Victor Mizer, one of 24 tracks featured on the upcoming compilation Second Year of Saucy. The collection features five new tracks, and “Hit the Dancefloor” still sounds fresh among them.
Drifta describes his sound as 45 percent drum & bass, 45 percent UK garage, and 10 percent R&B/hip-hop/soul—but there is a lot more going on in his tracks than that neat formula. London’s autodidactic producer deftly dabbles in trance, Italo house as on “Hit the Dancefloor,” and Indian pop as on his recent release “Mahi Ve (Sajana).” “Hit the Dancefloor” kicks like vintage UK garage amplified for the post-wobble era, with a noddy bounce pushed along by Mizer’s hyped and tight flow. As Drifta supporter Kissy Sell Out might say, it’s a “cracker.” Second Year of Saucy—featuring new tracks by Inkline, Pelikann, Underground Traffic, KGreen & TZ—is out next week.
Available November 4 via Saucy Records.
