Eelrack “Life”
Based out of Brooklyn, Charles Meyer is charging dead ahead as a purveyor of the underground sound. The emerging tech house talent, who produces under the alias Eelrack, released his debut “Space” several months ago. Now, he is racking up another heater through his follow-up single. “Life” is a four-floor pick-me-up that steers clear of the formulaic and tickles every inch of your tympanic membrane. A clean—with just the right amount of mean—rhythm rides beneath a delectably dark bassline, which occasionally ascends in pitch before slamming back down to the ground. Precise and unpredictable, idiosyncratic textures fill the spaces like dopamine flooding a synapse. A top-shelf tune like this one could bring any dancefloors pronounced dead back to life.
Clocking in at a six-minute run, the premiere of “Life” can be peeped after the break. Take it in, and then help yourself to some insight on the tune by soaking up some words from Eelrack below.

Choose one feeling that sums up this release, and describe it to us.
Appreciation of the craziness of life.
How does this production reflect your personality/ethos?
It’s playful but also weird, and it’s high-energy and a bit absurd… When I’m my best self, I’m all of those things.
Was there one particular moment in the recording or mixing process of this track that made you feel as though you were creating something pretty damn special?
Yeah, there are these tiny little wobs and percs in the background that give the beat a lot of texture, but you don’t really notice them consciously unless you try to. They are subtle but totally indispensable to the track. Once I had those in there, I knew I was onto something good. I made them in Sylenth and will definitely use them again in future projects.
Have you played this one out in any of your sets?
I played this at Temple in San Francisco and at Exchange in Los Angeles. I was relieved to see that people were grooving pretty hard. Also, one of the label guys played it at It’ll Do in Dallas, and another friend played it at a club in Amsterdam, and both said it went off.
Describe the perfect setting to hear this track.
