El-B Digs Into a Woozy Garage Riddim on “What You Mean to Me”
From the moment Four 40 Records opened shop, the imprint has steadily risen to the top of the UK bass scene by taking in a strong range of talent excelling in the grime, UK garage and bass house realms. They’ve got an incomparable eye for finding artists worth their salt, and they’ve now set their sights on the legend that is El-B. He’s been a formidable figure in that region for as long as anyone can remember, and he has harnessed his expertise making exceptional beats on the forthcoming package, Ease My Mind. Seeing as how edgy UK garage has always been one of his greatest strengths, the British producer uses it to his advantage on “What You Mean to Me,” a neatly assembled riddim scratching off both categories of nice and nasty at once. It’s a gentle reminder of why his influence stretches all the way back to the roots of the genre.
