Henrix & Celeda “The Underground”
Miami-based producer Henrix has been touring nonstop for the last two years—ever since the release of his big room classic “Hit It” with fellow Floridians GTA and Digital Lab. After he closed 2014 with the chart-topping record “Light” on Fedde Le Grand’s Flamingo Records, this year is set to be huge for Henrix. Next up on his busy schedule is the release of his newest single, “The Underground,” featuring vocals from Chicago’s Celeda, on Cr2 Records. With a massive build, catchy vocals, and a powerful drop with banging horns, this record is bound to be a club-killer. Having recently signed a new Las Vegas residency at Light, and announcing some larger tours in the works, Henrix is definitely one to watch right now!
Available January 20 via Cr2 Records.
Did you discuss or exchange ideas with other producers while creating this track?
I did! I always have a few buddies I show my tracks to and get feedback from them. I always want to know if I’m heading in the right direction or not. Sometimes when you’re making something, you get caught up thinking it’s sounding good because you hear it so many times, and it’s not. So you need your buddies to give you tough love.
Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
My manager came to me with the idea of it. He used to run a label called Star 69 years ago, where the original Celeda version was released. I laid out some ideas but wasn’t happy with anything for a while. Then, after a few stabs at it, things started coming together and finally reached where I wanted to be with it.
Was there one particular moment in the recording or mixing process of this track that made you feel as though you were creating something pretty damn special?
I feel like you should always have that moment when making music. If you think a song you’re making isn’t special, then I don’t believe you should put it out. I feel like you should go 100 percent on it and feel very proud of it in the end. Even if it doesn’t do well, the most important thing is that you’re 100 percent happy with it, and that’s all that matters. If you aren’t, then on the release, you’re always going to doubt if it was good enough or not.
Do you think advances in computer technology and gear have affected your creativity?
Yes it has, and for the better! Nowadays, you can make a certain sound that you’re thinking of from scratch, just from a VST. I can get so many different-sounding pianos, and not just one from a grand piano. I can also make effects and make the quality of a track sound so much better because of the technology that we have now. I’m not sure why anyone would complain about technology; you have so much more to work with now.
Have you played this one out in any of your sets? If so, what was the response?
Yes, I have. I try and play it in almost every show. Steve Angello actually premiered it on his BBC radio show, and the reaction was amazing. The whole Size crew have been supporting it in their sets and radio shows, and I’ve gotten a great response as well as when I play it. I’m very happy so far with the reaction.
