Joedan Drops Jacking Techno Gurgler “Barca” on Food Music
As you might guess from the title’s triple X, Leeds-based up-and-comer Joedan’s Late Night Traxxx EP is a collection of underground cuts for grownups. Among its illicit pleasures is “Barca,” a stripped-down and gurgling techno jacker that broadcasts its after-hours clarion call to night crawlers of clubland without lyrics or vocals.
“It just came together naturally, but at the time, I was starting to get quite heavily inspired by techno—so I guess some of those influences came out in that tune, with the heavy drums and repetitive stabs, etc.,” Joedan says. “I got the track signed to [Food Music] by showing Shadow Child via a pack of demos I sent him.”
Shadow Child, who cofounded Food Music with Kry Wolf, adds, “Joedan was trying to get my attention after sending me his music. After a recommendation from one of Holland’s top bookers to ‘get involved’—as ‘Joedan’s stuff is the shit’—I quickly got on the case, agreed with the sentiment, and we picked these tracks up for Food!”
Not resting on his laurels, Joedan has a spate of releases queued up via underground imprints, and his calendar is filling up with gigs in Europe and North America. Even as his profile picks up steam, he’s still keeping it humble: “I would just like to thank Shadow Child for giving me the chance and actually listening and feeding back on the tracks I’ve sent him, as not many people are willing to take the risks on relatively unknown producers nowadays.”
Available October 20 via Food Music.
