Joyce Muniz Taps Christian Nielsen for a Thumping Rework of “Wake Beside You”

The Brazilian-born and Austria-based Joyce Muniz joins the enigmatic Claptone as one of the very best the revered Exploited Records stable has to offer. A versatile producer representative of the wide spectrum of house music showcased on the label, Muniz pushed things a step further with the release of her debut LP, Made in Vienna, last year.

The album saw Muniz fusing her club-oriented grooves with a stronger focus on songwriting and working with vocalists. “Wake Beside You” is one such example of the album’s accomplished crossover efforts, featuring the sultry vocals of Christa Vi, and it’s also the final single to be lifted from Made in Vienna. It’s due for release toward the end of this month, and Muniz has recruited Christian Nielsen to rework its soulful grooves into a more driving club record.

“‘Wake Beside You’ is one of the slower tracks on my album,” Muniz says. “I loved Christa Vi’s vocals from the very start, and I knew they could work in a house version, too. I’m a fan of Christian Nielsen’s productions, so it felt right to ask him, as I knew he could take the deep, dreamy vibes to a banging house track. I’ve been playing his remix for several months now, and it’s one of those tracks that just works in every club.”
