Klangkuenstler Brings an Old-School Feel on Pumping Tech Cut “Girlfriend Mentions”
There’s a lot you can learn about an artist based on the vocal samples they choose to stitch into their tracks. Take Klangkuenstler, for instance: The Berlin-based producer is known to lift hooks from throwback hip-hop tracks to give his punchy tech house grooves an irresistible old-school feel. On his latest EP, Pop Dem Bottles on Elrow Music, he reaches into the ‘90s to litter his three tracks with the type of nostalgia that can instantly send dancefloors into mass hysteria.
He sources the one and only Notorious B.I.G. on the closing cut, “Girlfriend Mentions,” chopping and looping the lyricist’s delivery around a pumping rhythm. Shuffling drums, grungy basslines, and whittling horn stabs work in unison around the iconic topline, which adds even more street cred to the already buzzing Berlin producer.
Available September 4 via Elrow Music.
