Lee Van Dowski Breathes Organic Energy Into Glance Off’s “Balathon”
While Glance Off’s original vision for “Balathon” is a misty journey through the mechanized world, much-lauded Swiss producer Lee Van Dowski’s remix attempts to strike fire from the mainframe. Here, the classic deep and dark tech-house vibes of the original are imbued with a more body-moving spirit. A rhythmic shift immediately jumps out toward a more foot-moving ensemble, aided by a deftly beefed-up kick and bassline.
Playing a dancefloor-heating, long-dynamic game, the Italo-inspired synthlines of “Balathon” stay more or less intact but dive through a landscape of twisting tension. Secondary and tertiary melody lines swim across the aural eddies, increasing the pull. With the aided call of the vocoded voice floating through this angelic ether, the stakes seem to grow higher and higher with each phrase—yet Van Dowski keeps a certain level of subconscious hypnosis flowing throughout the journey.
“I’ve been a longtime fan of Lee Van Dowski’s music,” says Pirupa, venerated producer and founder of Nonstop Records. “Been playing his music since he was in Cadenza, and now I’m totally in love with his new, dark techno style. Glance Off is also a big fan of him, so he was our priority name on the list of remixers, and we are very happy with the result and to have him on board!”
