Every March, you can count on a monster set of tunes on the Miami Noize compilation, which is curated by legendary Boysnoize Records ahead of the Winter Music Conference in Miami. In its sixth year running, the compilation showcases new heat from label giants like Boys Noize, D.I.M. and Djedjotronic, but it also features impressive tracks from upstarts like Madame & Deapmash. Their tune “Compact” is a furious breakbeat with a sinister vocal sample that’ll surely become a weapon for DJs in this year’s upcoming festival season.

Pick up the entire package now on Beatport, and be sure to drop by their WMC party if you’re in Miami next week.

Did you discuss or exchange ideas with other producers while creating this track?
Absolutely. I did this track with my friend Deapmash, who is a techno producer from my hometown. We were in my studio and were on something very different from the actual track. I was working on a loop with his broken-beat signature, and I felt like he wasn’t feeling it, so I introduced the rim-shot into the beat. Then, I added the “relax your body” vocal. He started to groove, and so did I, so we followed up on this path.

Were you impulsive on this track, or did you have a sketch in mind before you started?
Like I explained before, it was totally impulsive. We added this percussion, then we found this vocal, and the track was almost finished at this point because we had the main idea. Also, we made the vocal cuts impulsively from my MIDI keyboard, and it sounded good, so we kept it. Originally, we just wanted to collaborate on a track, and we had no sketch or planned ideas in mind.

Describe the best setting/activity to hear this track.
Basically, in a large club or at a festival with a big sound system that’s taller than you. Deapmash’s bassline should literally massage and relax your body, bones and muscles.

How do you measure the success of a track?
When I receive a lot of postal cards at my home from people thanking me for what I’m doing.

Creatively, how did the work on this track stack up to previous studio sessions? Was this more challenging to complete than others?
Actually, as an individual artist working alone on my Madame project, it was creatively different to work on this collaboration. This is why it was nothing like previous solo studio sessions. It’s not only following your own intuition and inspiration, but it’s also catching the vibe with what you both want to hear. It was more challenging in this way.

Choose one feeling that sums up this release, and describe it to us.
Big sound and bossy vibe. It was important for both of us, as it is in our individual projects, to maximize the sound, to create a high energy and a feeling of fatness for when the track would be played live. I don’t want my tracks to sound smaller than others—quite the opposite, actually.
