Mafia Kiss Digs Deep Into Grimy Groove on “Think”
When Stanton Warriors and Mafia Kiss get together, good things happen. In 2016, Mafia Kiss kicked off the Punks Warehouse Selection Mix series with a slamming selection including Plump DJs, Hybrid Theory, Alex Session, and Sly-one. Earlier this year, Mafia Kiss remixed Stanton Warriors’ “Still Here” as part of an anniversary remix reissue that also featured interpretations by Fred V & Grafix, Vanilla Ace, and Rektchordz.
Now, Staton Warriors’ Punks Music is releasing “Think” by bass upstart Mafia Kiss, of Bournemouth, UK. The track—and its subsonic dubby breaks, crispy see-saw synth stabs, his and hers vocals trading Q&A loops, peek-a-boo hi-hats, and big, shapeshifting breakbeats—became an instant favorite with Golf Clap, the Crystal Method, and Utah Saints, among others across the big beat and bass house spectrum. “Think” mines a grimy groove where drum & bass permeates garage house. It’s a groove Stanton Warriors have perfected, and one Mafia Kiss interprets with promising ease.
Available August 18 via Punks Music.
