MSCLS Teams With DMG$ on Red-Alert-Level House Stormer “Critical Error”
Hard, chunky tech house with freaky vocals by DMG$—evocative of Green Velvet’s netherworld diatribes—drive “Critical Error,” the latest barnstormer from MSCLS on emerging label Strangelove. As the techno rhythm chugs along at a clipped pace, rushes of police sirens swell, and manic drums climax in a cluster of eerie synth stabs, as the disaffected narrator muses on the strangeness of people. We spot no mistakes, but we definitely feel the urgency alluded to in the track’s title.
“‘Critical Error’ has def got to be one of my favorite records I’ve written by far,” MSCLS tell us. “DMG$ (Damaged Goods) is a good friend of mine, and someone I’ve known and worked with for a long time now. Early this year, he sent over a pack of vocals he had worked on, and I instantly found inspiration in them.”
“This track has a lot of elements to it that make it up as a whole, but I wanted to use them all in a way that gave each sound its own space in the track to shine,” he adds.
“Critical Error” is sure to sound tight wherever you drop it, but MSCLS is reading our minds when he suggests a better environment to experience the bombastic euphoria. “This track was written for the club—small, intimate clubs with minimal lighting and strobe lights, flashing just long enough to get a glimpse of the room and everyone dancing.”
Available September 22 via Strangelove Recordings.
