Nicolas Jaar “Fight”

It’s a beautiful day whenever we’re graced with new material from Nicolas Jaar. The current state of dance music has left us in an oversaturated rat race with DJs more interested in making memes and than making music. Luckily for us, there are unpredictable artists like Jaar who are a cut above the fray, and he’s back in brilliant form for the legendary R&S imprint.

“Fight” represents the development of his career post-Darkside. The track begins with a modulated chord progression that gives way to stuttered vocal chops and broken drum loops. If you caught his phenomenal Essential Mix a few years ago, then you know the complicated facets that make up his sound. “Fight” includes most of them and is a wondrous journey for the entire eight minutes and 36 seconds.
