Rene LaVice Traps Hard on “Richter Scale”
Upcoming Event
Having earned his stripes over the past five years with a heavyweight drum & bass sound all his own, the Toronto-born, London-based powerhouse known as Rene LaVice goes hard in the paint on his latest outing for RAM Records. Centered on genre-bending versions of the title cut, his aptly titled Richter Scale EP not only delivers a healthy dose of chest-rattling bottom-end as promised, but flips the script with Rene going all-in on the house and trap tips as well.
Moving from strength to strength with each release, and never one to shy away from merging disparate influences and sounds, Rene seems to have reached critical mass with this latest release. Each tempo shift seems to bring out the best in the ever-impressive production values he is known for. Originally composed as part of a Bud Light campaign earlier this year, the multi-genre “Richter Scale” project seems to serve as the perfect backdrop for Rene to flex his studio prowess and skills.
While the house and drum & bass edits bring on their own versions of dancefloor fiyah, it’s this 808-driven trap beast we’re showcasing below that really puts us in the zone. It stomps and steps with a lurching energy that straight-up can’t be fucked with. Prepare to hit the deck when this one comes steamrolling through, as the dizzying, hypnotic shiver at the core is sure to hit you where it hurts.
Rene said to Insomniac:
“Richter Scale” was a way for me to push the boundaries of what I do once again. It was also a way to explore how an idea can spread across different tempos and intensities. The “Extended Mix” plays out kind of like a film, whereas the individual mixes are like taking specific scenes from that film, plucking them out, and then fleshing them out into a short film of their own. Where it really comes together is live on the dancefloor at an event. That’s where you feel it the most and it really comes to life. It tells a story, in a way—a story about earthquakes, and lasers and stuff.
Available October 7 via RAM Records.
