Rico Tubbs Gets Slimy With Rework of Lucent’s “Reach Out to You”
The spread of groundbreaking artists being laid out by Saucy Records has made the UK imprint a hot commodity in the underground circuit. They’ve been drizzling out some of the most proper productions in the garage and bass space, with their next aural aliment arriving courtesy of Liverpool’s own Lucent. On “Reach Out to You,” he slings together a catchy-as-all-hell topline with obese, jittery basslines that’ll crush crowds under their weighty movement.
Although his offering is strong enough to stand on its own, Lucent’s original has been tossed around in the tangy marinade of a few choice colleagues. Finnish oddity Rico Tubbs shows up to the remix party with a fatty, lending the piece a swinging percussive backbone and a tangy, garage-tinged finish. “I’ve been going through all the old basement records and early Photek stuff lately and thought the vocal would go well with the kind of epic ’93-ish dark chords,” says Tubbs. “Then, it was just about adding my other favorite elements: warp/wobble bass.”
Available April 8 via Saucy Records.
