Signal Flow ft. Kevin Knapp “What U Gonna Do” (DJ T. Remix)
Ray Zuniga and Michael Tello are harnessing all the components conducive to creating high-current grooves. With the former serving as a celebrated selector in recent years, and the latter touted for his work as part of the PillowTalk project, they’ve joined geniuses to form Signal Flow. The California-bred, Brooklyn-based duo is about to hold even more clout among underground crowds next week, after charging out with their City Livin’ EP for Culprit.
Of the three original offerings, “What U Gonna Do” has been stamped with a floor-ready remix courtesy of the legendary DJ T. The dude has the rave-rollicking vibes down to a T, as demonstrated with his rhythm-thrusting take. Propping up the venerated vocal work of Kevin Knapp, the tune employs crisp percs and bombacious basslines that will keep heads locked in its mercy as soon as it hits their ears.
Available June 15 via Culprit.
If you were to describe this track as a scent, a signature fragrance as it were, what would it be called? If it were to have a tagline, what would it be?
The scent would without a doubt have to be Santel 33 by Le Labo. If you’re not familiar, get with it. 🙂
Describe the best setting/activity to hear this track. What’s the takeaway here? Is there a message or vibe you hope to get across to listeners?
“What U Gonna Do” energy and vibe is primed for the warm weather dancefloors in a foreign city, at a smokey, vibey club or warehouse for a bunch of rigorous, raving locals. The vocals were written as an introduction to playing in a new and unfamiliar place and connecting with the crowd, which is important in what we do.
Who is the ideal person to remix this track?
When considering the right candidate to remix this track, DJ T. came to mind, due to the fact that we admire and love playing his timeless original and remix works. Thomas has been a Signal Flow supporter since our big Midnight in Tulum showcase in Mexico back in 2013. We are thankful to have him on board for this project.
Have you played this one out in any of your sets? If so, what was the response?
We’ve all been dropping this remix since we got back the masters from Culprit. The response from the crowd and dancefloor is next-level. It has great peak-time energy, with a touch of warmth that carries it over well in multiple settings.
How does this production reflect your personality/ethos?
City Livin’ is three originals of authentic style and distinct personality expressing our US dance music origins. An infectious house style clad with sophistication that represents a brilliant and mature funk.
