Supernova Takes “Avenida 146” Deep Into the Jungles of Tulum
Artists are put in a unique position, in that their creative muscles are constantly being toned on the road. It’s hard not to get a boost of inspiration when you’re soaking in new cultures and experiences on a regular basis. Supernova, the Italian twosome made up of Emi and Giacomo, channels a special trip they shared to last year’s BPM Festival on a new two-tracker for Chus + Ceballos’ venerated Stereo Productions. Live in Tulum features a pair of astounding originals that transport the listener straight to the idyllic beachside hangs and lush jungles of said city.
Both productions pull from an emotional place, yet the grooves still exist in a serious space. They strip away the restraints on the back cut, though, moving deeper into a melodic climate.
“‘Avenida 146’ was inspired by the energy and colors of the nature during our last trip in Tulum, Mexico,” says Supernova. “We wanted to transfer that great feeling in a track that had at the same time an intense musical feeling and a solid club techno beat.”
Hissing hats and crisp claps contribute nicely to the driving drums, which take the spiraling arpeggs and lush padlines on a scenic drive. While the EP creates a context we’ve yet to see of Supernova, it’s a new direction we’re willing to follow.
Available September 16 via Stereo Productions.
