Tommy Vercetti Brings Bounce to Kalyde’s “Eighty Nine”
Summer might be over Stateside, but that doesn’t mean some artists aren’t still bringing that bright sun with them—and that’s exactly the feel Tommy Vercetti has given to his remix of Kalyde’s “Eighty Nine.” While the original is a brilliantly dark chunk of driving tech house, this take breathes a breezy bounce into the mix.
Though still quite stripped down, Vercetti starts with several additional layers of shuffled percussion. These much more housey rhythms form the backbone of the mix, along with a host of classic sounds that make their way into the beat. Much brighter and more upfront than the original, this remix does away with darker elements, such as the angular 303 line of the original.
What you end up with is a different type of deep here. While Kalyde’s original version of “Eighty Nine” could pound away in a packed warehouse, Vercetti’s flip feels more at home at a bright pool party or a boisterous lounge. In the end, it offers a new lens with which to view this thumping track.
“Really excited to be back on Sense Traxx and remixing for Kalyde,” Vercetti tells Insomniac. “For this remix, I went for a soulful deep-house vibe for those warmup sets to set the tone of the night.”
