Wuki & K1K0 “Party”
Upcoming Event
Wuki had a breakthrough year in 2014 after releasing some huge records on labels like OWSLA, Fool’s Gold and Mad Decent. The Colorado-based producer also knows a thing or two about making club-ready bootlegs, as evidenced by his latest rework of the classic Vengaboys record “We Like to Party.” Expect to hear a lot more material from him in the near future, because he’s just wrapped up a couple of remixes and is preparing to go on tour with TJR and GTA in February.
If you were to describe this track as a scent—a signature fragrance, as it were—what would it be called? If it were to have a tagline, what would it be?
“Sweat and Love”—because you only place this track when the dancefloor is bumping and the vibe is right. The tagline would be, “Stop frowning and start smiling.”
Did you discuss or exchange ideas with other producers while creating this track?
Yeah, it is a collab with my homie K1K0, so we both exchanged a lot of ideas. Cool story, actually: K1K0 was one of the winners of my “Same Damn Sound” remix contest. I really loved his remix, so I asked him to collab with me.
Do you think advances in computer technology and gear have affected your creativity? How so?
Definitely. We actually used Splice to make this track, which made it way easier to collab online.
Creatively, how did the work on this track stack up to previous studio sessions? Was this more challenging to complete than others?
It’s pretty fun and easy to work on bootlegs. Since we just pulled samples from the original track, it took a little clever editing to take out some of the parts of the track needed to make the remix.
What’s your favorite sound/synth/effect/etc. used here, and why?
I am in love with circuit bending, and specifically, my circuit-bent HR-16. If you ever wondered what the Wuki “tick” sound was, that’s it.
