Yousef Forges One for the Headstrong With “Strange Girl”
Compilations are meant to be a way for labels to show the world how stacked their stables are. As far are circles are concerned, Circus Recordings has one of the strongest crews in the house and techno categories, and they’re letting it be known through the fourth volume of their lauded late-night Selector series. It’s a top-level affair, with the perennial imprint flagging down a few underground department heads to turn in verifiable club tools that name-check Darius Syrossian, Patrick Topping and Richy Ahmed.
Circus ringleader Yousef also rolls up his sleeves to show us why he’s the brains of the whole operation. “Strange Girl” is the name of his donation, a visceral techno cut with pinches of peculiar sewn into its flamboyantly out-there fabric. Guided by swinging drum sequences, the tune picks up processed vocals and fleshy synth stabs along its way toward the place where discerning heads go in search of a life-changing listen.
Available May 30 via Circus Recordings.
