UNER and Viviana Toscanini Craft Glowing Grooves With “Bloomed”

One of the bigger names of the new generation of producers coming out of Spain is UNER. He has used his background in classical music to create the sort of emotionally deep and deceptively complex dance tracks that people simply connect to. With myriad releases on labels such as Sincopat, Last Night on Earth and Sol Selectas—and even a two-volume special project of electronic classical music—UNER has earned respect on a global level. Now he is back on his own label, Solar Distance, to release a rich collaboration with his partner, Viviana Toscanini. Their joint Inception EP promises to be the start of more collaborations for the couple.

“Bloomed,” one of the tracks from the release, is a dark and complicated journey of haze and feeling. Though house in nature, it has a vey European electronica feel to it. Raw in many elements, percussion with a drum-machine-feeling beat cuts time under layers of hypnotic, rough synths. Emotive piano chords chime, breathing extra warmth into the dark and somber soundscape. Feigned low-fidelity and a meandering wobble in nearly every element give “Bloomed” a strong personality.

Attention to detail—from shifting dynamics of individual parts to knowing when to bring new sounds in and when to let things breathe—shows next-level skill here.
